HERE THE VOTERS ARE LOOKING FOR QUALITIES IN A POLITICAL LEADER AND PRIME MINISTER WHO WILL PUT THE INTEREST OF OUR COUNTRY AS HIS FIRST PRIORITY OTHER THAN ANY PERSONAL GAINS.
LET’S LOOK AT THE FOUR LEADERS:
1.PRAVIND JUGNAUTH, OUR PRESENT PRIME MINISTER WHO IS SPEARHEADING THE SECOND ECONOMIC MIRACLE AND VISION 2030 OF MAURITIUS AND WHO IS ALSO ENSURING THAT NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW IN MAURITIUS.
2.XAVIER DUVAL, THE LEADER OF PMSD WHOSE PARTY WAS AGAINST THE INDEPENDENCE OF MAURITIUS AND WAS ANTI- INDIAN CLOTHES.“LANGOUTI ET ENVELOPER NOUS PAS LE DANS MAURICE”
3.NAVIN RAMGOOLAM, THE UNELECTED MLA WHO LOST HIS SEAT IN TRIOLET AND IS STILL LEADER OF THE LABOUR PARTY.
HE IS ALLEGEDLY CHARGED WITH TWO SERIOUS CRIMINAL OFFENCES AS WELL AS A SEPARATE ALLEGED INVESTIGATION BY THE BRITISH AUTHORITIES IN THE UK ABOUT BANK ACCOUNTS AND BLACK CARDS.
4.PAUL BERENGER, FRANCO-MAURITIAN LEADER OF THE MMM PARTY WHICH IS NOW SPLIT INTO 3 NEW PARTIES AND MORE SPLITS ARE PREDICTED IN THE FUTURE WITH MANY MEMBERS DESERTING AND WALKING AWAY FROM THEIR PARTY BECAUSE OF THE WAY BERENGER IS CONDUCTING HIMSELF.
LET’S START WITH PRAVIND JUGNAUTH, THE PRIME MINISTER OF MAURITIUS
Mauritian voters will soon have the opportunity to hold their political leaders to account at the ballot box in the next general election. So, this is a timely moment to remind ourselves of their character and qualities and review how these men have conducted themselves in public office.
Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth has made huge economic progress and continues to distinguish himself while representing Mauritius on the world stage. Following in the footsteps of his father, Sir Anerood Jugnauth, who delivered the First Economic Miracle, he is diligently progressing the Second Economic Miracle in order to modernise Mauritius and transform the island into Africa’s number one first high-income nation and a gateway to Africa and the world.
At the same time, Prime Minister Jugnauth continues to advance our country’s global interests: He has held extensive talks with Indian Premier Narendra Modi, as well as discussing important bilateral ties with Chinese President Xi Jinping who visited Mauritius for two days at the end of July 2018. Such achievements clearly resonate well with Mauritian voters because current research shows at least 65% of the electorate are happy to support their leader at the next general election.
Despite his obvious popularity, Prime Minister Jugnauth continues to firmly uphold the rule of law and understands that the rights and interests of the Mauritian people must always come first. That is why this former barrister, a man of absolute integrity who never shies away from difficult decisions, has been able to act decisively whenever those in government have appeared to fall short of the high standards demanded by those who hold positions of authority.
Prime minister Pravind Jugnauth asked Mauritian President Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, Africa’s only female head of state, to step down over financial irregularities. Gurib-Fakim has been accused of buying jewellery and clothing using a credit card provided by an NGO, founded by an Angolan banker interested in doing business in Mauritius.
A close political ally, a true patriot and former Vice-Prime-Minister Showkutally Soodhun was also asked to resign, and even in the last few days, two more close associates, a minister and the deputy speaker of the National Assembly allegedly accused of getting too close as defence Barristers with drug traffickers have likewise been told to stand down while they clear their names.
Likewise, Mr Soodhun accepted his departure from the government with dignity and modesty and has pledged his full support to the Prime Minister. It shows that Pravind Jugnauth is a man of integrity and the welfare of Mauritius is his first priority.
NAVIN RAMGOOLAM? WHY VOTE FOR A MAN WHO HAS TWO ALLEGED CRIMINAL CASES PENDING AND AN INVESTIGATION IN THE UK ABOUT BANK ACCOUNTS AND BLACK CREDIT CARDS?
Will Navin Ramgoolam ever change his habits? The answer is a clear “NON“ A leopard cannot change its spots.”
The voters know it and they cannot trust this man to lead them again. The voters gave him many chances and he let them down badly.
Navin Ramgoolam, also under a cloud, still has to face charges of money-laundering and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice in a court of law. Such issues must cast doubt over whether he is fit to be able represent Labour at the next election. After all, he could conceivably be in jail by then, serving a sentence for his alleged misdemeanours. Ramgoolam cannot really expect the voters to tread water in the hope that the alleged two criminal cases and his alleged black cards investigations in the UK might somehow just go away.
The voters know too much about Ramgoolam. He will never change his habits of partying, big cigars and black label whisky and of course his dancing partner residing in Italy, Nandanee who is looking forward for those memorable parties again.
THE FRANCO-MAURITIAN PAUL BERENGER?
These days, Franco-Mauritian Paul Berenger, by far the most secretive politician on our island, seems to spend most of his time dividing and marginalising his own MMM party. This old timer, whose origins and education still remain a mystery, appears to have nothing but disrespect for the young voters of Mauritius – which happen to represent 60% of the electorate! In an age of refreshingly transparent voter expectations it is hard to fathom what Berenger can possibly hope to gain from such bizarre behaviour. Berenger is regarded by many as a dinosaur politician who is praying for the 1970s to come back again. Keep dreaming, Paul!!!
XAVIER DUVAL: THE BIGGEST POLITICAL OPPORTUNIST EVER IN THE HISTORY OF MAURITIAN POLITICS?
Xavier Duval, now seemingly following an entirely opportunist strategy, appears ready to reposition himself whichever way the wind blows. This is not a man who can be relied upon to keep his word or do his duty in a crisis. Despite this unpredictability, he does at least have one constant, defining feature – he always looks after the interests of his family. Whatever the issue, the Duval clan always retains first place in the pecking order.
Duval’s PMSD is renowned for its duplicity. This was the party which took an anti-independence stance, and its former party leaders were also anti-Hindu and anti-Muslim. Note too that Duval’s father was the self-appointed “Roi de Creole”, even though his ancestors were allegedly not from Mozambique, Africa but from Madras in South India.
As the opposition leader, Xavier Duval is hopeless and an embarrassment to his party and democracy. He looks completely in a daze in the National Assembly. His questions and interventions in the national Assembly are so futile that the voters are wondering whether there is something drastically wrong with him.
So, to summarise: The PMSD is a dysfunctional party which lacks any coherent vision or strategy – that is unless you happen to be a member of the Duval clan!
The voters have a choice and our research has told us that the voters do not care one bit about the local newspapers and the three Radio stations which are attacking the present government daily. These media organisations represent less than 2% of the readers and listeners and we are aware of their backer’s political ideologies which is a “divide and rule policy” in Mauritius.
The voters of Mauritius are aware of the four leaders and they know that for the past two years Pravind Jugnauth has been a man of action, determination and integrity.
His goal is to improve the standard of living of all its citizens. The majority of the Mauritian voters are ready to give Pravind Jugnauth a huge boost of confidence and a new mandate to continue and complete the second economic miracle.
